Welcome to DOR- Norwegian Double Reed Society!
The Norwegian Double Reed Society (Norsk Dobbeltrørlag - DOR) is a voluntary organisation that serves as a platform for professional performers and teachers, amateurs, students and children (and those with otherwise a particular interest in double reed instruments) to share knowledge on all things related to the oboe and the bassoon. DOR places particular emphasis on the recruitment and education of the new generations of oboists and bassoonists. The current chairperson of DOR is Stacey Dixon, oboist with the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra.
DOR was founded in 2018, and our members include oboists and bassoonists of all ages and levels from across Norway (our youngest current member is 6 years old and the oldest is in their 70s!) A sizeable percentage of our members are aged 25 and under.
First and foremost among the organisation's activities is our annual weekend conference “DOR-fest”, which takes place in different cities around Norway every October. Here, oboists and bassoonists of all ages and levels from across the country gather for ensemble playing, chamber music, masterclasses, and socialising. We offer everything from masterclasses with some of Scandinavia and Europe's most renowned performers and teachers, to some of the very first ensemble playing experiences for our youngest players. Many of our members live in isolated locations with few double reed colleagues nearby; DORfest is therefore also- we hope - vital to creating a sense of community for double reed players around the country. DOR is also a forum for our members to shop for instruments and specialist equipment from the many wonderful exhibitors and instrument repairers who join us each year.
We also organise and sponsor smaller gatherings, concerts, teacher seminars, reed workshops, and more. DOR owns several instruments and manages the rental of these for our members. In addition to our website, we maintain accounts on Facebook and Instagram, where those interested can follow our work.
